Let Santa Know Where You'll Be At Christmas

by J Gardener

To parents, the holiday season may mean parties, music and pageantry, as well as a whirlwind of Christmas-themed activities, from Thanksgiving until Christmas Day. To their youngest children, the holiday season means planning for one thing-Santa Claus's Christmas Eve flight and visit. And every child understands that Santa Claus knows exactly where to leave the toys and goodies he's bringing, because he knows where every child lives. Lots of children are fairly meticulous about preparing for Santa Claus. Many of them write to Santa, carefully listing the toys and gifts they want to receive. Many children work hard to improve their behavior, as the holiday season begins, heeding carefully the advice in the song that says, "He knows when you've been bad or good, so be good, for goodness' sake!" Santa Claus is important enough to young children, that, for all of its ceremony and celebration, its lights and its sounds, Christmas can be serious business. Yet, every now and then, parents can come carelessly close to ruining Christmas, as though they didn't understand anything at all about the holiday. Like when parents decide that, after spending every Christmas of a child's life at home, this year the family's going to Grandma's house, or to the beach, or anywhere that's not home. It's the perfect way to panic a child. After all, how is Santa supposed to know where a family's going to be, if they aren't at home? Parents who make such ill-conceived plans for Christmas had better have a plan for convincing their children that Santa Claus can, indeed, find them, on the big night. Sure, Santa could leave the presents at the family's home, but then the children wouldn't have much of a Christmas morning, would they? The best thing is for parents to provide some kind of proof that Santa Claus is aware of the family's plans. The Santa at the shopping center could assure a child that he knows where the family will be. Or a letter from the Big Guy might make a child breathe easier. There are many ways a parent can find to prove that Santa won't miss them, but it's a sure bet that, if this is the family's first Christmas away from home, their child will be on pins and needles, worried about what Christmas morning will bring. Of course, no child will totally believe that Santa can find the family, until Christmas morning dawns and the child finds the treasures Santa has left. But once that's happened, and Santa's come through, the Christmas trip is something that can become a family's tradition.

Kids Love to Wear a Christmas Costume

Childs Christmas Costume.jpgChildren of all ages love to dress up-at Christmas time they love it even more as adults are also inclined to dress up. At this time of year there is high demand for children’s Christmas costumes, there is also a demand for costumes for adults. In stores all over America a man is employed to dress up and play at being Santa Claus to entertain the children-in addition to this there will be other smaller people who may be dressed as elves. Children like to wear all kinds of costumes. Children’s Christmas costumes are a particular favourite-children love being asked to play angels or Santa Claus. They especially like wigs and beards and if they are in a school concert or pantomime and are asked to play Santa Claus, then they love it-just watch young children rummage in a box full of wigs and beards; they have so much fun.

Parents Can Pool Their Time To Help Each Other At Christmas

by J Gardener

Christmas is the most special time of the year for most families. Children can't wait for Santa Claus to slide down the chimney and leave a great bundle of goodies under the tree, on Christmas Eve. As they dive into their presents, their parents get caught up in their joy and forget about the stress of the past few weeks, and the trouble it took to get here. For parents with younger children, though, the magic of Christmas may seem like a million years in the future After a holiday season full of activities that are supposed to be joyful, parents with infants can only remember packing and unpacking strollers in crowded parking lots and changing diapers in strange rest-rooms. It's really difficult, nowadays, to find a sitter who's both trustworthy, and who can be hired without taking out a second mortgage. Simply because they have toddlers or infants to deal with, parents shouldn't have to dread the holiday season. They shouldn't have to sacrifice all of the parties and pageants, because they can't figure out child care. Especially since there are millions of parents everywhere in the same boat. One way for parents to attain some free time for holiday activities and Christmas shopping, while ensuring trutworthy baby-sitting at the same time, is too form a holiday baby-sitting pool. Whether through church or daycare or pre-school, most parents of very young kids are acquainted with other parents in the same boat. Four or five sets of parents, helping each other, can make all of their holiday seasons pass more smoothly. After Thanksgiving, a group of like-minded parents can share their holiday schedules, with an emphasis on their free days. Then, a schedule for all can be determined, and distributed among the group. When a couple has a free day, they may then be asked to care for all of the children in the group, so that those parents can go shopping, or to a holiday party to which children aren't invited. As parents drop their kids at the host's house, they can also leave food and drink, to help with the cost of the afternoon. Couples who help each other with child care will find themselves, on Christmas morning, much less stressed than many of their peers, who've tried to survive the holidays without the help of their friends. By forming a club of sorts for the purpose of caring for each others' children, couples can enjoy those activities that make the holiday season so special, while being sure that their children are safe and well-attended.

Santa Craft Ideas for Kids

by Kerry Beck

Kids love Christmas crafts. Santa craft ideas for kids are an easy and fun way to spend time with your kids during the holidays. Choose from one of our Christmas craft-decorating, free ideas. SANTA PICTURE: If you're looking for holiday craft ideas for preschoolers,, this is a great place to start. So, let's begin with Santa pictures. There are a variety of Santa coloring books available during the holidays. Choose a picture from the book. Cut out the picture of Santa, and place the picture in the center of a sheet of white construction paper. Use a glue stick to secure the picture. Color the picture with colored pencils. Once coloring is done, use wisps of cotton to serve as Santa's beard and use a small ball of cotton at the tip of his red hat. You can use small, black buttons to serve as Santa's eyes, and a red button for his nose. Fill the rest of the area of the white construction paper by drawing presents or candy canes. When the picture is finished, your children can sign their names right under Santa's image. Take a piece of heavy cardboard and secure the picture to it. Put the picture in a frame to protect it. Place this frame in a memorable area of your house for all to look and admire. SANTA CHRISTMAS CARDS: Santa Christmas cards is another art activity your children will be able to do. With a piece of white construction paper, measure the paper to a size of 5×7 inches. Cut the paper to that particular measurement. You can either fold it vertically or horizontally. Tell your kids to personalize their version of Santa on the front page. Let them use crayons or colored markers to help stimulate their imagination. After the picture is finished, your kids can write Christmas messages on the inside of the card. Homemade Christmas cards are wonderful to display in your home or send to relatives and friends. You can even add this to your Christmas craft-a-day calendar; it's a great craft to do with your kids or students. MAKE A SANTA PLATE ORNAMENT FOR THE CHRISTMAS TREE: Things that will be used are crayons and markers, cotton balls, a large paper plate, and color sparkles. Trace or draw Santa, without his red hat, on the plate using the drawing materials. Use the cotton balls to serve as his beard. You can even stick the cotton balls together into a V-shape so that Santa's beard hangs off the plate. The cotton balls can serve as Santa's hair, also. Use a blue marker to color in Santa's eyes, and a black marker to draw Santa's glasses. Use red food color on a cotton ball to make Santa's nose. You can color the rim of the plate with red or green and add color sparkles to it. Finally, place the Santa plate on the tree by inserting an ornament hook at the top of the plate. Well that's it! There are many different ways to share with your kids on how to make Santa Christmas ornaments, pictures, and cards.

How to choose Christmas recipes that are favorites with everyone and still leave you time to spent with your guests.

There are many different Christmas recipes that you can use at Christmas time. For most people who celebrate Christmas, the holiday season is characterized by gathering of family and friends, feasting and giving gifts to each other. Christmas would be incomplete without the mention of Santa Claus, Christmas trees, mistletoe, Christmas cakes, cookies, puddings, other Christmas goodies and cards.

Christmas recipe planning should be done with the precision and advance preparation of a military operation, so that the cook will enjoy it too. All the extra items that are needed for any Christmas recipes should be thought of well ahead of time. It is a good idea that you sit down and choose your Christmas recipes for the cake, puddings and meat, and then list all the ingredients that you will need for each of them. A good plan would be to start doing this in November.

At the beginning of December, decide on what meat you are going to buy and find out how much it will cost-at least this way you’ve made a start. Whether you are eating turkey or ham, any Christmas recipes just wouldn’t be complete without all the trimmings.

Whether the Christmas recipes are designed to be eaten formally at the table or buffet style-try to focus on foods such as roasts or casseroles. These may take a while to cook, but won’t need your constant attention in the kitchen. Whoever does the Christmas catering must also be able to enjoy themselves with everyone else, without having to spend too much time in the kitchen.

Buffets are a great way to manage feeding a crowd. Get as much done with your Christmas recipes as you can the day before-focus on foods that can be eaten at room temperature. It will save you a lot of time and work. Cover the food and remove it just before people go up to eat. When your guests walk through the door on Christmas day let the smells of all those Christmas recipes hit them. Keep a pot of mulled apple cider on the stove so the first thing that you can smell is a delightful mixture of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.

Make extra large batches of items like spiced nuts, salad dressing or gingerbread in advance. The Christmas cake and most puddings should be made a month beforehand. If you’re not sure what to give them for dessert-solve the dilemma by asking your guests to bring a batch of their favorite Christmas deserts. Your guests can then show off their best Christmas recipes and everyone will enjoy the variety.

Our Pets Need Holiday Attention, Too

by J Gardener

This is a season which seems to be full of holidays. From Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas, it seems as though we just move from one celebration to another. One of the most wonderful aspects of the season is that it's a time for celebrating the love and the closeness and the fellowship of our families. Most of us stay incredibly busy during this time of year. The normal routines and habits we observe during the rest of the year fly out the window, as we rush from parties to shopping malls, from churches to grandmothers' houses to holiday pageants. As hectic as it can be, at least we know that it will only last a short time, before winter sets in. At least, most of us know that it won't last. We may notice, at this time of year, our pets behaving in strange ways. Dogs and cats, especially, depend on the routine of their family, for security. The family dog will be confused, if his walk-time is altered, even by an hour. He may wait by the door, anxiously, wondering why we've forgotten him. That usually lazy, silent cat may stand by her empty bowl, staring into it, and meowing louldy, wondering in her cat-language why she's not being fed at the normally appointed time. Even pet birds measure their security by our constant habits. They know when the house should be quiet and empty, during the daylight hours, and when to expect the sound of the family, every evening. A sudden alteration in our normal habits will be noticed immediately by our pets, and they may react in odd ways. Cats may choose to hide in secret places, calling out, confused and frightened. Birds may eat much less or not at all for a while, and they may lose feathers in the process, or they may pick at themselves, opening sores on their bodies. Dogs who have been well-trained may suddenly behave like puppies, again, urinating indoors or chewing shoes or tearing up newspapers. We don't need to change the way we celebrate the holidays in order to please our pets, but we do need to be aware that they don't understand why Christmas alters our routines. As much as possible, pet owners need to spend a little extra time with their pets at this strange time of year. We need to let them know that, yes, we do think of them and that they really are important family members. There's nothing we can do to make our pets grasp what's happening, fully, but if we take a few minutes, each day, to acknowledge their importance in our lives, the stress we put them through during the holidays will be softened a great deal.

Get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy another wonderful holiday season

Christmas is a magical time when you stroll outside, the air is cold and crisp and often the sky looks a little grey but you still feel happy and walk with an added bounce in your step.  It makes you smile seeing the great job Jack Frost did on your windowpanes and you do not mind scraping the car windows before you can drive to go Christmas shopping.  You travel slowly down the street looking at all the fabulous light shows displayed on the houses and lawns of friends, neighbors and even strangers.  Fighting the crowds while shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts for loved ones, friends and co-workers, just adds to the excitement of Christmas.  This is all part of the joy of Christmas.

If you have children, you hide their gifts because you know that just like you when you were a child, they will be hunting for them.  Sometimes you keep them at a friend’s house so the children do not find their Christmas gifts and you get a chance to visit while you wrap them.  If you have younger children, there are often bikes and doll carriages to be constructed or toys that need batteries put in them.  Do not forget to mail the children’s letters to Santa at the North Pole.  No matter how old your children are, even ones living away from home, they love Christmas stockings so stocking stuffers are necessary.  A great family tradition is to take your children to buy a few Christmas gifts and food items to donate to those less fortunate.  Christmas is a time for giving and enjoying the company of all people, not just those that you already know.

Christmas morning finally arrives, gifts are opened and the turkey is stuffed and in the oven.  The Christmas tree glows and sparkles with tiny lights and beautiful Christmas ornaments.  Opened gifts sit under the tree; the children are playing while the adults sit and talk.  After all the hard work of preparing for Christmas, it has been worth every second.  Other family members and friends stop by to wish you Merry Christmas and to celebrate this wonderful holiday.  Everyone sits down to a lovely Christmas dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy.  Desert is often plum pudding or Christmas cookies, if you have any room left.  After tidying up and tucking the children into bed, you finally get to sit down and put your feet up.

At Christmas, many people celebrate Christ’s birth while others celebrate life and pray for peace and harmony.  We remember loved ones we have lost and reminisce about years gone by.  No matter how old we are, what race, heritage or upbringing, Christmas is a time to love, rejoice and live.

Christmas gifts for Hard to buy for family

It always seems like there is someone on the Christmas gift list that is much more difficult to buy something for than others. Often people decide to give these family members gift certificates or other genetic gifts that usually end up in the bottom of a drawer or up on a closet shelf.

If you want to make sure that your gift is meaningful and welcomed, try asking yourself a few questions about the person that you are buying for. By taking the time to answer these questions you will have a good basis of ideas to start your gift search.

What do I know about this person?
What is the kind of hobbies, interests, sports, crafts or other activities that the person likes to be involved in? Sometimes talking to other family members can help you out with this question.

What does the person enjoy?
Have you noticed that the person enjoys a particular type of cooking, or maybe they love to go to the movies. Do they seem to be a collector of anything? Many people get involved in collecting certain items that are rare or hard to find, which can make gift giving a bit difficult, but might give you other ideas. Fishing, hunting, hiking, bird watching and camping can all prove to be great starts to looking for a gift.

What colors and clothing styles does the person wear?
If they wear a lot of ties or sweaters that could help you out. Maybe they always have on a baseball cap whenever they come to visit. Often people really like a particular color. This can sometimes make gift giving really simple if you can find a gift in their color. For example, a golfer might really like a one-of-a-kind purple golf bag if purple is a favorite color.

Do they have any children or favorite pets?
Sometimes gift items with pictures of children, grandchildren, favorite pets or even favorite places can be a great idea. T-shirts, sweatshirts, posters, framed pictures, personalized mugs all can be very welcome gifts, especially if the picture is of one of their favorite things.

Do they travel?
Usually those that travel can always use space saving devices and items that are functional for travelers. Often new luggage or even a new briefcase is a great gift and something that is often not considered.

Are they indoors or outdoors people?
Indoors people may enjoy reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, movies, puzzles or other activities. Outdoors people may prefer bird watching books, hiking trail guides, tickets or lessons to a particular sport or event.

Do you have anyone you can talk to about them?
Sometimes the reason someone is hard to buy for is that we don’t really know him or her as well as we should. Doing a bit of investigating and talking to others in the family can be a great source of information.

One key to purchasing gifts for hard to buy for family is to not wait until the very last minute. Usually those hard to find gifts result in a last minute scrabble to find something, literally anything, to give as a Christmas gift. Instead of handling your difficult to buy for person’s gift this way, try buying for them first.

Use magazines, the internet and even catalogues as sources of inspiration for gifts. In addition don’t forget that gift giving comes from the heart, and a well thought out give will be appreciated no matter how much or how little it costs…
